Review Friday: Wicked Lasers
Lasers are cool right? We all know the red laser pointers that are readily available at markets and such. Well how about…
A GREEN LASER.
Images below.
As I mentioned in the week I had ordered a laser. And today it arrived. My sharks are still on order.
I ordered my laser from a company called Blue Sky Marketing, through their site laserpointers.co.uk [blueskymarketing.co.uk] although it re-directs to http://www.blueskymarketing.co.uk. It was dispatched yesterday and the trusty Royal Mail delivered it today, first class.
Unboxing
The hard case containing the laser came in a little plastic slip.
Once the slip is removed you get to see the hard case that you store the laser in. Whilst it’s fairly tough, a laser is still delicate what with all it’s optics and such.
And inside the hard case is… the laser in all it’s glory!
The Laser…
The laser runs off a pair of AAA batteries, and the manual reckons you’ll get 90 minutes per set. It’s roughly the length of a pen and about as round as a 5p. It has a nice weight.
…In action!
Some images of the laser in use.
Okay, it’s nearly midnight on Friday. I can’t go out and take some cool photos of my laser through fog or glass sculpture or such, so you’ll have to settle for these two shots.
The first shows the brightness of the green laser compared to a red laser over a distance of roughly 20 feet. Sorry for the blur, long exposure and lasers show up every little shake.
The second shows the brightness after 100 feet or so. After this the red laser fades to nothing.
Expect some photos involving lasers next week!
Pros
- It’s a laser
- It’s green
- It’s cheap
Cons
- Slightly more powerful than I expected
Although it’s only a 5mW laser, this thing could still potentially be dangerous, effects of exposure to the beam ranging from temporary flash blindness to semi-permanent blindness, possibly even permanent if the exposure was long enough.
So I must exercise a little caution when playing with my cats or mirrors.
Have a good new year!
Jason
